Ibn Sina, also known in the West as Avicenna, was a Persian physician, philosopher, and scientist. His full name is Abu Ali Al-Husayn Ibn Abdullah Ibn Hasan Ibn Ali Ibn Sina. He was born in 980 AD in Bokhara, present-day Uzbekistan, and died in 1037 AD in Hamadan, Iran.


### Biography


Ibn Sina was one of the most influential scientists and philosophers of the Middle Ages. His childhood and adolescence were spent in learning and acquiring knowledge. He memorized the Qur'an at a very young age and acquired extensive knowledge in medicine at the age of 16. Ibn Sina wrote about 450 works, of which more than 240 have been preserved. Among his famous works are "Al-Qanun fi al-Tibb" (The Law of Medicine) and "Al-Shifa" (Healing).

#### 1. Al-Qanun fi al-Tibb (The Law of Medicine)

Ibn Sina's best known work is "Al-Qanun fi al-Tibb", known in the West as "The Canon of Medicine". It consists of five books and has long been considered one of the major texts of medical science. It describes different parts of the body, types of diseases and treatment methods. This text was a major textbook for students of medicine in the European and Islamic world for centuries.


#### 2. Al-Shifa (The Healing)

"Al-Shifa" is a large philosophical and scientific encyclopedia, which focuses on various branches of knowledge, such as theoretical and practical sciences. It contains detailed discussions of mathematics, physics, astronomy, chemistry, music, and logic.


#### 3. Surgery and infection

Ibn Sina was a pioneer in the field of surgical treatment. He discovered the connection between infection and the spread of disease and spoke of the importance of cleanliness. Based on his research, the modern germ theory was later developed.


#### 4. Medicinal properties

He analyzed the medicinal properties of various plants and described the methods of preparation of various medicines derived from them, which play an important role in homeopathy and herbal medicine today.


Ibn Sina's works had a huge influence not only on medieval Islamic civilization, but also on the later European Renaissance. His philosophical and medical writings are still revered and studied today.
